Georges Aperghis (* 1945)
"Sextet - The Origin of Species

For the duration of a concert, MUZOO's permanent exhibition is transformed into a music hall. Stroll through the museum spaces and listen to the curious musical offerings of the SoloVoices ensemble, performing works by composer Georges Aperghis. The evolution of life is translated into music, to be as close as possible to our sensations.

Was the world created by an all-powerful God, or did it develop and blossom gradually through evolution? Franco-Greek composer Georges Aperghis does not seek to resolve the tension between evolutionary theory and belief in a creator, a tension that is still present today. On the contrary, he shows imagination. In collaboration with librettist François Régnaud, he takes Charles Darwin's famous, long-controversial text on the origin of species and combines it with intoxicating, ritualistic music, evoking humanity's deep-seated need for trance and devotion.

The concert is free, and a hat will be available. Thank you in advance for your generosity.

Another concert (for a fee) takes place on Friday March 8 at 8pm. Registration and booking.
