Between the grasses: meadow birds

As part of the national conservation program for the Corncrake, the Swiss Ornithological Institute Sempach and MUZOO present the exhibition “Entre les herbes: Les oiseaux des prairies (Between the grasses: meadow birds)“, created in collaboration with graphic designer and biologist Maeva Arnold.

The exhibition introduces visitors to seven species of grassland birds that are threatened in Switzerland today: skylark, woodlark, tree pipit, meadow pipit, corncrake, corn quail and meadow sparrow. Censuses carried out in recent years in the canton of Neuchâtel indicate that some areas are still home to significant populations of woodlark and tree pipit. But why have these birds become so rare? How do they live? How can we protect them? With films, animations, games and 3D images, the exhibition takes you into the world of prairie birds! Conferences, local excursions open to the public, teaching aids to introduce the theme in schools, and an outdoor treasure hunt complete the program.
